About me...
Photographer:
I have been taking photographs ever since my dad taught me from the age of 10. Having some technical aptitude I took to the equipment, but what really has come forth over the years is that sense of the creative eye. It has been an organic development, panning around a scene to see what snagged my vision, what stirs. I have since done some studying, learnt techniques, practiced and attend the Taunton camera club which all enhances my knowledge. Photography goes really well with my love of the outdoors, natural beauty, and travelling (often at speed - see below!) The pictures on this website are primarily south west England, but I also have images from my further travels, some creative, some just happy holiday snapping. Take a look at them here: flickr.com/nickmorecroft
Writer:
This is my highest ambition in life. Funny saying that as it's one of the things I do least of at the moment. I have a novel that is half complete, and once I have finished my counselling course I intend to finish it and see whether it has the legs for publication! The main thing is that it has been great fun to write, I've learned a lot, and I gain huge enjoyment from it. I keep up my writing by attending a regular class and working on short pieces. Here is a link to a writing blog where I post some of the pieces: nickonabike.blogspot.com
Counsellor:
I have been training in counselling for about four years now. It is a very interesting field. I like how it is possible to facilitate people to achieve what they want in life. The idea that we can all have a say in how our life goes is very appealing. Humanistic counselling works well for me because it advocates the client being the expert in their own world. It connects well with my writing, as I really appreciate the hopes of humanity.
Outdoor enthusiast:
I have a love of the outdoors that I think must be reflected in my photography! I would say we are very lucky to be living in such a beautiful world. I must admit that when I'm travelling, it doesn't take me long to escape from the energy of cities to the bliss of countryside. There is something liberating about the space, and truly rejuvenating about really feeling the impact of natural beauty.
Sportsman:
Cycling is a huge passion for me, and that works very well with the outdoors and photography! From exploring on the road to the physical thrill of mountain biking, it's seemingly endless in appeal. One place I'd love to cycle is the Himalayas! Otherwise, walking is great for coast paths and more exotic hillsides. I think there is only one time you get at being fit and healthy, so I'm making the most of it! I also love surfing, running, have done kiting, scuba diving (another world down there!), racquet sports, caving, climbing, martial arts. Need more time!!! One thing I'd love to try is skydiving with a winged suit. It's supposed to be the closest to flying you can get - have a search for videos, see what I mean!
